A creepy mausoleum in the middle of nowhere – sign us up!
There’s not a huge amount to say about Templetown Mausoleum itself – it’s a tomb built in 1789 by an architect I’m not cultured enough to know (Robert Adam), and houses local landowners the Templetown family including the Rt. Hon. Arthur Upton who was a soldier and later the MP for Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk.

The journey to find the mausoleum was slightly more interesting as it’s not well signposted, and looks like it’s down the driveway of several houses (which technically it is and I accidentally made one of the neighbours jump a mile by saying good morning). However, the walk to the cemetery is an atmospheric path flanked by fir trees, and there’s a heavy bolted gate at the site’s entrance. The mausoleum is the largest tomb on the grounds so easy to spot.

Verdict: Fairly random National Trust venue, but good to tick off en route to somewhere else.
