Figsbury Ring – Wiltshire

What on earth are two circle shaped ridges doing on top of a hill in Wiltshire? Iron Age hill fort? Neolithic settlement? Aliens?

The honest answer is the National Trust doesn’t know. Probably not the latter.

In fact, the sign provided more information about the fact Figsbury Ring is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (clearly not a name invented by someone with a lisp), and is home to some rare powder blue butterflies which I spotted being buffeted about on the breeze.

A word of warning though – while the app teases a car park, said car park was empty thanks to the ‘road’ leading up to it. So unless your car is a literal tank, I wouldn’t advise risking it.

Verdict: It’s a hill with some circular slightly bigger hills, and cows.
