Deep in the Norfolk Broads, an area of Outstanding National Beauty you will find Blakeney, arguably the most picturesque of the villages along the Norfolk coast.

One of the most interesting things about the broads is the dramatic tides which flood the land and allow for crabbing from the pier at high tide, and leave boats stranded and vast walkways at low tide. Which means that whatever time of day you visit, it looks completely different.
After the obligatory ice cream, we did a long walk through the broads from Blakeney to Cley-on-the-Marshes and the windmill which was glorious in the sunshine.

Bonus trip – For around £15 you can book a boat trip with one of several companies to go out to Blakeney Point to see the playful grey seals and Atlantic seals. On the day we went out, the seals were surfing in the waves and kept popping up to have a good look at us and the boat.

Verdict: Stunning village with fabulous walks and great wildlife.
