Burton Bradstock – Dorset

There is something incredibly healing about watching and listening to waves breaking on a pebble beach. It’s good for the soul.

It is even better for the soul when you can sit on a bench and admire the view with a hot cup of tea from The Hive cafe at Burton Bradstock beach.

But what I love most about this beach isn’t the handy cafe or the free parking courtesy of my National Trust card; it is the dramatic shelf just below the waterline, which makes for big crashing waves, even on a relatively calm day.

While this makes this part of the coast terrible for swimming or surfing, it makes it excellent for that relaxation-tape quality wave sound.

If the ‘Jurassic Coast experience’ is more your thing, you’ll be delighted by the towering cliffs to the right of the beach which undoubtedly hide dinosaur bones and ammonites waiting to be discovered.

Or for ramblers who want to crunch along the beach pebbles for hours, they can do so to their hearts’ content as this beach literally goes on for miles.

Regardless of the motives behind your visit, this is a gorgeous pebbly beach which is a treat to walk along.

Verdict: Excellent beach with some very loud waves.
